Evonic is built around five core principles and three differentiating concepts that shape every design decision, from the runtime model to the developer experience.


Evonic is guided by five core principles that serve as the foundation for every architectural choice.

Evonic is designed and optimized for open-source models, not proprietary APIs. We believe in avoiding vendor lock-in by supporting open models out of the box, giving you the freedom to choose and switch models without rewriting your system.

We keep external dependencies to an absolute minimum to reduce supply-chain risk. Every library in the core is evaluated against the principle of simplicity: only what’s necessary stays, everything else lives in plugins.

Safety is built into Evonic’s architecture through two complementary layers, not bolted on as an afterthought.

Isolated Execution. Every agent runs inside its own sandboxed workspace. File operations, process execution, and network access are strictly confined to the agent’s designated environment, so no untrusted action can leak into the host system.

HMADS (Heuristic Mal-Activity Detection System). Beyond isolation, every command is inspected through the multi-layer HMADS before execution. Dangerous patterns are caught and blocked at checkpoints. When an agent’s behavior drifts into unexpected territory, the system escalates to you for approval.

These two layers together create a safety model where agents operate with real autonomy inside clear boundaries.

Performance and reliability aren’t luxuries; they’re the foundation. Evonic is designed for speed by default, with robust error handling and state management so your agents can execute consistently under load.

Everything in Evonic is modular. Models, tools, skills, channels, plugins, workplaces — each component follows a standard interface that can be swapped, extended, or replaced without affecting the rest of the system.


Beyond the five core principles, three concepts fundamentally set Evonic apart from other agentic frameworks.

1. Workplace — Flexible Execution Environments

Agents need to operate where the work is. Evonic’s Workplace abstraction lets you assign any agent to any execution environment without changing its configuration:

  • Local — The agent runs in its workspace directory on the host machine. Perfect for development, testing, and single-machine deployments.
  • Remote (SSH) — The agent executes on a remote server via SSH. Useful for managing production infrastructure or accessing resources in different network zones.
  • Tunnel (Evonet) — Connect devices through Evonic’s lightweight Go connector (Evonet). No public IP, no SSH setup, no complex firewall rules — just a secure tunnel to any device running the Evonet agent.

This means you can design one agent and deploy it anywhere, from a Raspberry Pi at the edge to a cloud VM running your enterprise stack.

Communication between agents is a first-class protocol in Evonic, not an afterthought bolted on via external message queues.

Every agent can natively:

  • Send messages and delegate tasks to other agents
  • Receive and respond to agent-originated requests
  • Participate in swarm orchestration where agents with different roles collaborate on shared objectives

This makes multi-agent architectures natural. You can build a swarm of specialized agents — a researcher, an analyst, a writer, a reviewer — that discover each other, delegate work, and produce results without custom middleware.

3. Heuristic Mal-activity Detection System

Autonomy without safety is dangerous. Evonic’s Heuristic Mal-activity Detection System provides a multi-layer safety net that inspects every agent action before execution:

  • Pre-execution analysis — Every command is scanned for dangerous patterns: mass file deletion, privilege escalation attempts, remote code execution, and other malicious or accidental threats.
  • Runtime checkpoints — Suspicious behavior is intercepted at multiple checkpoints during execution, not just at the entry point.
  • Human escalation — When the system detects behavior that falls outside safe boundaries, it escalates to you for approval rather than blindly executing. No silent failures.

This safety layer operates automatically and transparently. It’s what allows Evonic agents to work with real autonomy — you can trust them to act decisively while knowing the system will catch them if they drift.


These principles and differentiating concepts guide every feature, every API surface, and every architectural choice. As Evonic evolves, these commitments remain our north star, ensuring the system stays open, safe, and dependable.
